A MESOPOTAMIAN TERRACOTTA CUNEIFORM ENVELOPE AND TABLET
UR III, REIGN OF AMAR-SUEN, YEAR 5, CIRCA 2043 B.C.
Both inscribed in Sumerian cuneiform with almost identical administrative texts; the tablet recording "231 2/3 kor (of barley) for 1 day, remainder from the balanced account of Ur-gula. Month 'Festival of Lisi' (month III of the calendar of the city of Lagash), day 20, year (named): 'Enunugalanna was installed as en-priest of Inana in Uruk' (Amar-Suen year 5);" the envelope rolled with the seal of "Ur-Gula, scribe, son of Gani," and depicting a presentation scene with a seated deity, perhaps Ningirsu, patron of Lagash, with a spread-winged eagle above his hand, preserving traces of a similar text as the tablet, clearly recording the same month, day and year
