Lot Essay

As a porter at Ruthin Castle, it is possible that Roberts used an old draining board and broken knife handles to construct this object. At least one other example of Robert's work is known depicting Chirk Castle, Denbighshire, North Wales (illustrated in J. Ayres, op. cit., p. 67, fig. 17).
