Lot Essay

The present work depicts the interior of Sickert's Warren Street studio, which he probably first took in 1916, and kept during the First World War. There is an oil of the same setting, Resting. The Napoleon III Tobacco Jar, circa 1916 (Baron 357, Kirkcaldy Art Gallery).
