Paolozzi's reliefs and related works are part of London's restaurant history. The first reliefs were commissioned in the mid-1970s and among his clients have been Lanhams, the Caprice, the Ivy, Pizza Express and Neal Street restaurants. This relief was made at the Royal College of Art in the summer of 1981 for the restauranteur, artist and designer Enzo Apicella for his new restaurant Pizza Condotti on Mill Street in London. The materials for the relief were sourced by Paolozzi's assistant and model maker Ray Watson. The imagery of the relief also appears in prints from this period, a point Paolozzi underlined in the interview he gave in 1982; as well as in the mosaic decorations he was then designing for Tottenham Court Road underground station.
