Lot Essay

Foaled in 1818, Jack Spigot by Ardrossan or Marimilon out of the sister to Bowbon, won the St. Leger in 1821 for the Hon. Thomas Orde-Powlett, his owner. This was the first of a record nine St. Legers won by the jockey William Scott, although Jack Spigot is said to have had a great dislike for the jockey.
