Large 2° (520 x 415mm). Printed in red and black, 10 engravings by Bru, printed on paper manufactured for this work by L. Guarro Casas. (A little light spotting.) Beige linen specially woven by Gavaldà over pasteboard, front cover titled in gold. Provenance: Milka and Mario Valenzuela (presentation inscription by Neruda, dated 29 April 1973, in green ink on flyleaf).

PRESENTATION COPY, one of 16 copies reserved for close associates, this copy H, signed by Neruda and Bru. The Valenzuela and Neruda were long-term friends, having first met through diplomatic circles. Both men served in the Chilean diplomatic service (among other positions, Neruda had been Consul General in Mexico), and even though their careers did not overlap, they shared a deep interest in international affairs. They also shared close friends such as Prof. Robert Pring-Mill. Neruda visited the Valenzuela abroad on their numerous foreign postings, and they met regularly at Isla Negra where both had houses, and Neruda refers to their island friendship in his inscription (recuerdo de un isleno amigo). Neruda presented the present book to them only 5 months before his death on 23 September. Diez Odas is the first publication by El Laberint.
