[MEXICO--Paper Currency.] F. de P. T. Proyecto sobre un establecimiento de papel moneda. Mexico City: José María Ramos Palomera, 1822.
8o (200 x 141 mm). 12 pages and 2 folding tables. (Title page reinforced.) odern calf, gilt-lettered.
FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST PROPOSAL IN MEXICO FOR THE PRINTING OF PAPER MONEY. It is dated August 29 and September 12, 1821, and printed in 1822, actually only a few months after Mexico declared its independence on September 21, 1821. In 1984, the largest bank in Mexico, Banco Nacional de México, published Historia del Papel Moneda en Mexico; its author, José Antonio Bátiz Vázquez, cites this very scarce pamphlet as the first appearance of the proposal for the use of paper money in Mexico. This proposal was not followed, but some three months later the first paper money began to circulate. Not in Palau.
