Border Index Cards, 1878, Middletown, OH, Paper Fabrique Company, 52 of 52 cards, lacks joker. Part of the Longley Brothers group of manufacturers that commenced making playing cards in Cincinnati in 1861. This is a rare example of indices running the entire edges of each card. Double-ended courts appear to be European royalty of the era, indices, round corners. Ace of spades reads, "Patent, Border Index Cards, Paper Fabrique Company, Eagle Card." Backs are panels of florals, geometric designs, and circles in blue. Includes outer box with attached extra court card plus earlier partial earlier original box that reads, "Saladees' New Border Index (patented DEC. 25, '77). However, patent number 198,217 was issued to Cyrus W. Saladee on December 18, 1877. Box with some wear. Dawson 27, L14.
