Marriage Cards, England (?), circa 1840s.
40 of 40 cards. The printed pictures with English text have been mounted on boards, and divided with 20 cards depicting men on blue backs and 20 cards depicting women on pink cards. The male cards ask questions such as, "Your charming features all I see. But do you ever think of me?" The woman answers, "Perhaps I do. Perhaps I don't. Perhaps I will. Perhaps I won't." "Another card reads, "In those lovely features each charm I can see. Then say can you love & be happy with me?" In reply, "I cannot say No, that I freely confess. I doubt very much if I ought to say yes." Handmade box. Cards slightly worn.
