De forme polylobée, reposant sur un haut pied de même section, le couvercle décoré au centre en rouge, vert, noir et jaune (tianqi), incisé et souligné à l'or (qiangjin) d'un dragon à cinq griffes au-dessus des flots et parmi les nuages, surmonté du caractère shou dans un médaillon, entouré de panneaux de fleurs et de fruits repris sur la boîte, les rebords de la boîte et du couvercle ornés d'une frise de fleurs ; l'intérieur et la base laqués noir, la base portant la marque à six caractères incisés et dorés de l'Empereur Jiajing ; quelques restaurations

Lot Essay

The decorative technique qiangjin consists in incised outlines etched in gold denoting the outlines of the design; for tianqi (filled-in) lacquer, different lacquers colours are applied to enhance details and contrast against the coloured ground.
These techniques were often used during Jiajing and Wanli periods ; see Laques Chinois du Linden-Museum de Stuttgart, Musée Guimet, Paris 1986, p.88 (a small Jiajing dragon lobed dish), p.94 (a Wanli double dragon square box) ; see also the circular dragon dish from the Wanli period illustrated in Lee King Tsi and Hu Shih Chang, Drache un Phoenix, Lackarbeiten aus China, Köln 1990, p.188
