8o (191 x 125 mm). Contempoprary white calf, covers decorated with an elaborate painted and gilt design, a broad gilt frame of large scrollwork and shell designs, with interlaced gilt fillets, the compartments formed richly colored in royal blue, crimson and tan, with small ornaments in green and orange, surrounding a central panel of unpainted white calf with a large central medallion framed by a maroon morocco festoon border with gilt decoration, central oval painted coat-of-arms of Camus de Pontcarre under mica, the spine in six compartments with five raised bands, with alternating olive and red onlays, with gilt decoration à l'oiseau, pink silk linings, edges gilt (front cover detached, rear joint weak, old descriptions tipped to endleaf). Provenance: Camus de Pontcarre, first President of the Parlement of Normandie (binding); Cortlandt F. Bishop (bookplate, his sale Kende Galleries, 7 December 1948, lot 7, Emil Offenbacher agent).

A beautifully executed rococo almanac binding, with vivid coloring.
