Geiger, double-page dedication within lithographic corner decoration, and double-page lithographic title-page, this with a wide border of representatives of four continents and with 14 portraits of famous printers and scientists. Double-page text, all mounted on guards (a few minor marginal repairs). Late 19th century half cloth and boards (some light wear to sides and spine ends).
FIRST EDITION. Alois Auer, inventor of "phytoglyphy" (nature printing), was since 1841 director of the Imperial Printing Office in Vienna. The present work is the result of studies, which he had undertaken in order to establish himself on his own account. A continuation of Adelungs Mithriad Mithridates, its first part brings the Pater Noster in 600 different languages and dialects in typometric order. The second part prints the Pater Noster in 200 different languages, giving an amasing survey of the Imperial Printing Offices enormous variety of Types. The Asian, African and North American Indian are particularly striking.
