2o (333 x 235 mm). Hand-colored engraved title and 133 colored plates of arms, by W.H. Lizars, interleaved with blanks. 19th-century red morocco gilt extra, sides with richly gilt floral borders and central panel, spine gilt-lettered and -decorated, wide morocco turn-ins gilt, vellum doublures and endleaves, edges marbled and gilt. Provenance: Curtis Thomas (morocco bookplate); purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 5 May 1955.

FIRST EDITION, of which only 100 copies were printed (see Lowndes). It is a facsimile edition of the "Register of Arms of the Scottish Nobility and Gentry," an emblazoned manuscript done by Sir David Lindsay in 1542. Several hundred shields are illustrated. Lowndes p.1422.
