Printed on blue, white and pink paper. Blue morocco gilt, edges gilt, by Lancelin. Provenance: M. le Cte. de St. Thomas (presentation inscription); purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 2 May 1952.

FIRST EDITION OF THIS SCARCE WORK. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR on the half-title: "Souvenir d'amitie a M. le Cte. de St. Thomas. J.J. Marcel." Marcel was a distinguished scholar of Asian literature as well as a type-designer. He was administrator of the Imprimerie Nationale under Napoleon I. This volume is dedicated to Louis-Philippe of France, printed on blue, white and pink paper. It prints a verse of the Psalms referring to the King in 80 different idioms, printed in 80 different typefaces.
