A PAIR OF LATE GEORGE III 18-INCH DIAMETER TABLE GLOBES

The terrestrial dedicated to Sir Joseph Banks, 1799 with additions to 1807, an overlaid vendor's label Jere.h Watkins Charing Cross London, made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores and two polar calottes, with graduated equatorial and ecliptic and ungraduated Greenwich meridian, the oceans with an analemma and numerous explorers' tracks with notes and dates, the continents finely detailed with towns, cities, rivers and mountains;
The celestial split in half, the cartouche dedicated to Nevil Maskelyne, with a similar vendor's label, made up of two sets of twelve hand-coloured engraved split gores laid to the ecliptic poles, the axis through the celestial poles, with graduated equatorial, colures and ecliptic with twilight zone, the constellations depicted by mythical beasts and figures and scientific instruments, the stars to nine orders of magnitude with nebulae and clusters and variously labelled according to their source catalogue; both globes with a printed hour-dial and pointer at each pole, engraved brass meridian and four-legged mahogany table stand, the hand-coloured engraved horizon with degree (x2), Zodiac and calendar scales, losses
