A French brass and black marble automaton striking locomotive clock
S. Scupène Bilbao. Circa 1880
The locomotive with compass set into the funnel, aneroid barometer set into the side of the boiler and clock dial to the footplate with Arabic enamel chapter ring and blued steel hands, signed S Soupène Bilbao, the movement with twin spring barrels, platform escapement and strike on a bell, the backplate with stamp for Japy Fréres and further numbered 711, the automaton wheels with separate spring barrel movement beneath the engine raised on a black marble rectangular plinth with brass block feet
