An unusual scale model of a single cylinder horizontal drop valve stationary engine,
built by R. Winsford with cylinder approximately 2½in. bore x 4in. stroke, main stop and regulator valves, gear shaft and eccentric operated, drip inlet and mechanically operated exhaust valves, piston rod tail shaft and guide, studded stuffing boxes, trunk-type crosshead guide, barrelled connecting rod, marine-type big end bearing, counterbalanced crank and spoked flywheel, the crankshaft mounted in trunnions with split brasses. Further details include mechanical lubrication to main bearings, crosshead guide and cylinder, gear driven governor with balance weight and damper, crosshead guide and cylinder, the whole mounted on a cast bed with steps, hand rails and simulated chequerplate flooring and sliding door stamped Do not enter if engine is running, finished in green and grey, wood base -- 35.5 x 96.5cm. (14 x 38in.). Various wooden patterns.

Lot Essay
The prototype was one of twelve built for use in South Africa and built from a minimum of drawings. Valve timing, the oil pump and some other small items need attention.
