Lot Essay

The cusped apron on the present lot is based on an earlier prototype, such as that on the corner-leg table illustrated by Wang Shixiang, Connoisseurship of Chinese Furniture: Ming and Early Qing Dynasties, vol. II, Hong Kong, 1990, p. 94, fig. B 77. The addition of a lower shelf is related to those found on wine and lute tables, such as the Ming huanghuali example illustrated by Wang Shixiang, ibid., p. 97, fig. B 85.
