A Zitan wood figure of Avalokiteshvara
Tibet, circa 17th century
With eight arms and eleven heads, standing on a round double-lotus base, the principal hands folded in front of the chest, wearing a deep red laquered dhoti painted with a diaper pattern and secured by sashes, adorned with armlets, necklace and earrings, the faces painted with gold and polychromy and surmounted by foliate crowns
