Lot Essay

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was made on a far smaller budget than its predecessor. Part of the reason this was possible is that many elements, including the expensive Enterprise sets, had already been built and paid for. But the other reason was the extraordinary ingenuity exercised by director Nicholas Meyer and production designer Joseph Jennings. They created an expansive look for their film by re-purposing many other elements that had already been made, such as the Klingon ship from the first film, which became the torpedo bay in Star Trek II.
