Lot Essay

Wang's specially made preparations for a Polar sledging journey with such treatments as 'Tablet 35: Kokain-adrenalin' for 'Snedblindhet: Snedbriller'. Compare Scott's sledging medical kits for the Terra Nova expedition prepared by Burroughs Wellcome & Co and Shackleton's leather 'tabloid' saddle case taken on his southern journey in 1908 (these Rooms, 21 Sept 2000, lot 79 and 107).
