AN EGYPTIAN PAINTED WOOD SARCOPHAGUS PANEL BELONGING TO A WOMAN
MIDDLE KINGDOM, DYNASTY XII, CIRCA 1991-1962 B.C.
Bearing a horizontal band of blue painted hieroglyphs invoking "Osiris, foremost of the Westerners for a goodly burial in the necropolis in the West, for the Ka of the blessed spirit, Hathor-hetep", two columns below, one bearing the name of Nut, the reverse of the panel with traces of three bands of hieroglyphs, a row of seated deities above, a band of the repeated name of Hathor-hetep, below which are faint traces of jars or representations of the offerings and approximately 54 columns giving the hieroglyphs of each funerary offering, a column of black painted hieroglyphs down the side below the pegs, in three sections with four later metal joints
