Lot Essay

The present work is a preparatory study for the figure in the right-hand foreground of Interior with Reclining Woman on which Pasmore worked between 1944 and 1946. The finished painting is listed as catalogue no. 94, pl. 75 (illustrated) in Bowness and Lambertini's monograph on the artist and is still owned by the Pasmore family.
