Lot Essay

Jüchtzer took his inspiration for this model after a Roman group of Eros and Psyche obtained by Augustus II in 1727. For a detailed discussion see Porcelain Collection Dresden, Meissen, 1998, p. 242-243. See Dr. K. Berling (ed.), Meissen China an Illustrated History, New York, 1972, Table 24, no. 1, for a similar group. Also see T.H. Clarke, Marcolini Meissen Figures, Engraved by Friedrich Elsasser, 1785-1792, London, 1988, p. 47 and 102, fig. 153 for an engraving and discussion on the identity of the mythic figures depicted by this model.
