The Ducal SC armorial on the present lot could relate to the Duke of Cleveland and Southampton. In Thomas Goode's records the Duke is recorded as the purchaser of a related pair of celebrated pâte-changeante flasks; see Masterpieces of Minton: Selected Items from the Minton Museum Collection, Bonhams, London, 5 October 2004, lot 34. Perhaps by coincidence, one of the pair is decorated in the same spirit with the 'Balayeuse' or female sweeper.
