SECOND QUARTER 19TH CENTURY
The upper part with a moulded cornice,fitted with adjustable shelves enclosed by a pair of glazed panelled doors, the fall enclosing a satinwood veneered fitted interior of drawers and pigeon holes and a tooled leather lined writing surface, with three long drawers below, on reeded feet, the fall stamped 'JAMES WINTER & SONS, 101 WARDOUR ST, SOHO, LONDON', later handles

Lot Essay

James Winter established his business in 1823 which was continued under his son until 1870.He described himself as a 'Broker,Licensed Appraiser & Undertaker,dealer in every description of second-hand household furniture'.He was a retailer and not a cabinet-maker but regularly identified his stock with his stamp.
