The above cap belonged to James Eccles Taylor, who signed for Huddersfield in 1892-93. Taylor was a halfback and centre three-quarter, and played prior to and after the breakaway of the Northern Union in 1895. He played in the first "professional" Huddersfield team following the split from rugby union.
