Frontispiece and 43 photogravure plates by John Swain & Son after Augustus John, Eric Kennington, Lawrence and others, 4 colour-printed collotype plates by The Chiswick Press after Kennington, 4 folding maps printed in red and black and bound to throw clear, and 3 facsimile plates, one double-page, by the Chiswick Press, colour plates and facsimiles retaining tissue guards. Illustrations, 3 full-page. Original pigskin-backed boards by A.W. Bain & Co., Ltd, spine lettered in gilt, upper board with gilt crossed sword design, top edge gilt, others uncut, most quires unopened (boards slightly discoloured, corners lightly rubbed and bumped).

THIRD ENGLISH EDITION, LIMITED ISSUE, NO. 617 OF 750 SPECIALLY-BOUND COPIES. This edition was preceded only by the 1922 'Oxford' first edition and the 1926 'Subscribers's' second edition. O'Brien A041. With a copy of the first trade edition in dustwrapper, with a letterpress sheet of omissions docketed 'Printed and inserted by W. Partridge. Jan 1991' tipped onto the margin of p. 7.
