The hall mark belonged to the famous Republican figure, Wang Zhaoming (1883-1944) who was actively involved in the 1911 revolution resulting in the overthrowing of the Qing dynasty. During the Republican period, he was in charge of the Guomingtang party. Later during the Sino-Japanese War, he surrendered to the Japanese and was appointed the Chairman of the puppet government in Nanjing. This pair of bowls came from a dinner service with Wang's hall mark that was said to have been presented to Wang by the provincial government of Jiangxi when serving as the head of the Administrative Ministry (1931-1935).
