An export black and gilt lacquered games compendium with ivory pieces, 19th Century
the hinged lacquer box opens to become a chess board, with alternating gilt squares, the black squares decorated with figures at leisure within gardens and various animals including oxen, deer and tigers, the interior painted as a backgammon board embellished with central images of fruiting vines and butterflies, with 32 ivory circular counters, and two dice shakers, carved with figures amongst architecture and foliage, and a full set of 32 chess pieces carved as figures, the bases formed as puzzle balls, each set with half of the pieces stained red - lacquered box, 25in. (63.5cm.) wide, ivory chess pieces, 7½in. (19cm.) max.
