Lot Essay

The present Venetian armchairs are embellished with a very attractive and unusually elaborate carving; most of the related armchairs unintended to be painted show a much sober carved decoration. Among the few examples with an extensive decoration, an armchair is illustrated in S. Levy, Il Mobile Veneziano del Settecento, Milan, 1964, pl.I and a pair is illustrated in C. Alberici, Il Mobile Veneto, Milan, 1980, pl.380.
