The son of Edward Knight, Prescott-Knight was accepted as a painting student in the Royal Academy Schools in August 1823. He became a prolific portrait painter, known for his paintings of important figures such as Sir Walter Scott, and his group portrait 'The Heroes of Waterloo' (1842); Knight also painted a number of religious subjects which reflected his dedication to the Catholic Apostolic church, of which he became a deacon in 1847.
