Lot Essay

The present drawing is reminscent in style to the drawings Rowlandson executed during his first tour of the Isle of Wight in 1784. In particular the drawings of inns' interiors on the island, see Pictures and Watercolours from Longleat, Christie's, London, 14 June 2002, lots 519, 542.
