Lot Essay

Mogford began his career at the Government School of Design at Somerset House. He married the daughter of Francis Danby, A.R.A. (1793-1861). Mogford specialised in seascapes and rocky coastal scenes such as the present watercolour. He became a member of the Royal Institute in 1867.
