Assisi was also the subject of watercolours exhibited at the Royal Society of Painters in Water-colour in Winter 1872, no. 272; Winter 1874, no. 65; Winter 1875, no. 275; Winter 1883, no. 343 and Winter 1886, no. 353.

Goodwin and Arthur Severn accompanied Ruskin on a trip to Italy in 1872 arriving at Assisi on 21 May.
