PUSHKIN, Alexander Sergeevich (1799-1837). Sochineniya. [Works]. St. Petersburg: v' tipografii ekspeditsii zagotovleniya gosudarstvennikh' bumag', and I. Glazunov [vols. 9-11], 1838-1841.
11 vols., 8° (224 x 150mm). Half-titles. (Lacking engraved portrait, a few leaves spotted.) Contemporary half calf (some boards detached, a few spines chipped, rubbed). Provenance: shelf marks in a 19th-century hand -- Paul M. Fekula.
THE FIRST COLLECTED EDITION OF PUSHKIN'S WORKS. 'Scarce' (Fekula). The first 8 volumes were planned and edited by Pushkin's friend V.A. Zhukovskii. The last three volumes were published by subscription by Il'ya Glazunov; the first of these, volume 9, bears the signature of Glazunov certifying that it is copy no. 629. Kilgour also calls for just one such limitation statement. Later copies show Matvei Zaikin as well as Glazunov in the imprint, and in these the statement is signed by Zaikin and a list of subscribers is added to volume 11. It appears that this, the Fekula set, predates the Zaikin-Glazunov partnership. Fekula 5041 (this set); Kilgour 890 (copy 3590 with Zaikin imprint and subscribers); Smirnov-Sokol'skii 44. (11)
