4° (228 x 140mm). Engraved title vignette by S. Galaktionov after F. Alekseev. (Dampstain). Contemporary calf, original printed wrappers bound-in, red morocco label on spine (lightly rubbed). Provenance: Grand Duchess Ksenya Aleksandrovna (bookplate) -- Paul M. Fekula.
KSENYA ALEXANDROVNA'S COPY of Zhukovskii's triumphal lyric upon Napoleon's retreat from Moscow, and ultimate defeat. The poem is a continuation of the Pevets v stane Russkikh voinov which made him famous. Zhukovskii, who was also admired for his translations of Byron, Schiller, Goethe and Gray, was a friend and collaborator of Pushkin, and a member of the Arzamas poetical circle.
