This history of the Ministry of War spans from the 18th century to the reign of Alexander II, and places special emphasis on the Imperial household. It charts in detail, and with numerous biographies, the challenges of the Crimean and Napoleonic wars, and the changes in leadership. The set consists of four volumes in five, and four supplements: Kvadri's 18th century (1 vol. and supplement); Kvadri's Alexander I (1 vol., and a supplement not mentioned in Zaionchkovskii); Kvadri and Shenk's Nicholas I (1 vol., and a supplement not mentioned in Zaionchkovskii); Shenk's Alexander II (2 vols., one of these not mentioned in Zaionchkovskii, and supplement).
