2° (383 x 280mm). 50 chromolithographed plates including one double-page, numerous text illustrations. (Occasional very slight spotting, 2 plates with small marginal tears.) Plates loose as issued, text in separate black painted silk boards, original morocco portfolio by Félix (portfolio lightly rubbed and soiled, one leather tie broken, silk boards very lightly rubbed). Provenance: Romanian bookseller? (2 stamps 'Casa Scriitorilor' inside front cover).
Edited by Lucien Vogel, Yakovlev's long-term publisher, this luxurious publication offers the sensitive observations written and drawn during the crossing of Africa in 1924-5. Yakovlev, aboard Citroën 'autochenilles', was the official artist of the expedition. His work was celebrated by, among others, the magazine L'Illustration (with a contemporary article laid in). N° 355 of 1,000 copies.
