Oblong 2° (358 x 390mm). Illustrated throughout with photographic reproductions. (A few small repairs, occasional light marginal wear, 2 leaves loose.) Original black patterned cloth, aluminium lettering on front cover, aluminium corner-pieces (re-backed, front endpaper repaired with some loss).

FIRST EDITION. One of 300 copies only, this one number 208. Rare historical record of the Russian community in exile in Shanghai. Published at the author's cost and, judging by the elaborate binding, bound to order. Russians in Shanghai is richly illustrated throughout with photographs of various views, buildings and the many Russian-owned businesses and factories in the city, and portraits of notable contemporaries, including the athletes and performers who contributed greatly to the city's cultural life, as well as ordinary residents. Significant events are also recorded, including the Sino-Japanese conflict in Shanghai, and the consecration of the city's Orthodox Cathedral.
