Château Margaux--Vintage 1997
Margaux, 1er cru classé
Tasting Note: First noted at Wagner's vertical In November 2000 and described by Paul Pontallier as 'a difficult year- strict selection for the grand vin'. A pleasant, medium-deep appearance. Attractive colour, nose and taste. More forward than the '98, the nose fully developed, slightly chocolatey and after three hours in the glass still rich, attractive with hint of coconut. Touch of sweetness. Fragrant. And at Rodenstock's blind tasting, March 2001, its nose and taste reassuringly similar. Full flavoured. My equal top mark. Most recently, at the MW tasting: cherry-like fragrance; dry, touch of coffee/mocha. Last tasted November 2001. **** M.B.
