Château Margaux--Vintage 2000
Margaux, 1er cru classé
Tasting Note: The grand vin was 40 of the crop; Cabernet Sauvignon 80 Merlot 10 Petit Verdot an unusually high 7 and Cabernet Franc 3 Cask sample first tasted in March 2001 with Paul Pontallier. Who described his Cabernet Sauvignon as 'out of this world…, a new benchmark…top vintage'. Fairly deep, black cherry, mauve rim, rich 'legs'; as usual, nothing shy about the scent of the young Margaux, it exuded raspberry-like fragrance; sweet, fullish, concentrated, dense, firm, with lovely fruit- yet even more tannin than the '86. Next, tasted in the first year chai. To be brief: it was impressive. ***** M.B.
