A GEORGE III SILVER CENTREPIECE
MARK OF WILLIAM PITTS AND JOSEPH PREEDY, LONDON, 1794
Oval and on four openwork leaf and berry capped lion's paw feet, the detachable fluted canopy on six baluster columns with acanthus scroll capitals, with pierced fluted borders and with a finial cast as a figure of Victory, the base with a cast figure of Apollo, engraved twice with a coat-of-arms, the canopy engraved with a crest,
marked underneath and on bezel of canopy, the central figure and finial apparently unmarked, the inside of the canopy further engraved with a scratchweight '131"11'

The arms are those of Pilkington presumably for Sir Thomas Pilkington 7th Bt. (1773-1811) of Chevet Hall, Yorkshire. On his death without issue in 1811 he was succeeded by his brother William.
