A PAIR OF GEORGE III SILVER SOUP TUREENS, COVERS, LINERS AND STANDS

Each oval and on a spreading base with a gadrooned rim, the lower bodies fluted, with angular scroll handles, the detachable cover with reeded leaf handles, the stands with a gadrooned rim, the tureen and stand each engraved with a coat-of-arms below an earl's coronet, the cover and liner each engraved with a crest within a garter motto and below an earl's coronet, marked under stand, on edge of foot, on cover bezel and on liner, each piece further numbered and engraved with a scratchweight
the stand 18½ in. (47 cm.) long

The arms are those of Scott impaling those of Surtees for John Scott, later 1st Earl of Eldon (1751-1838) and his wife Elizabeth daughter of Aubone Surtees of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. (2)
