A 20th Century Chinese embellished cabinet onlaid in coloured soapstones, lacquer, mother-of-pearl and bone, the two doors decorated with figures standing within pavilions and in fenced gardens, opening to reveal a single shelf, above two fitted drawers decorated with motifs of precious objects, all within geometric patterned borders -- 48.5in. (123.5cm.) high x 32in. (81.3cm.) wide x 14in. (35.5cm.) deep, purchased by John Lennon on his visit to Japan with The Beatles, June 30th-July 3rd, 1966; accompanied by a faxed letter concerning the provenance from Cynthia Lennon which states: ...The cupboard was part of a shipment from Japan during the Beatles Tour of the Far East. John loved it and used it to keep his "secret" stash of marijuana in the drawers. My mother owned it following our divorce..."if only cupboards could speak"...1p.
