MAYAN POLYCHROME CYLINDER VESSEL
LATE CLASSIC, ca. A.D. 550 - 950
the walls curving slightly outward painted against the cream ground in bright orange with the young Maize God on each side separated by two bands of glyphs including the 3 Katun Ahau and the Primary Standard Sequence, the deity standing with feet to the sides and gesturing with his right hand, outstretched on one side, and his right arm bent with his hand to his chest on the other, each elaborately attired with loincloth cinched with a medallion, heavy jade jewelry, a massive backrack of plumes with several heads of the Jester God issuing forth and scrolls emanating from their noses possibly the symbol of 'breath.'
