ATTRIBUTED TO THE MELEAGER PAINTER, CIRCA 400 B.C.
The obverse with satyrs and maenads reveling around a ring-handled tripod atop an altar, to the left a seated maenad holding a thyrsos, a dancing satyr beside her with long flowing hair and beard, his left hand on his head, to the right of the altar a kantharos in the field, a maenad in added white moving to the right and looking back, holding a thyrsos, her right hand raised, an ithyphallic satyr gesticulating beside her, a maenad standing to the right holding a thyrsos and kantharos, plants below; the reverse with three draped youths; meander and checkered squares encircling the vase below the scenes, laurel below the rim, dotted ovolo around the handle plates, palmette complexes below the handles, details in added white
