Inscribed and with a poem and signed, with three seals of the artist
This Painting was done in the style of Meiqing, one of the leaders of the Huangshan School of Painting, who was active around early Qing. Although the famous Baoshi Cun was still in its developing stage at that time, it can already be seen on this painting. The messy and carefree brushstokes are a mixture of ink wash and cun brushstrokes. Shitao was an early Qing artist that Fu Baoshi most looked up to, and he managed to express Shitao's poetic sentiments through experimentation with Meiqing's brushstroke styles. This interesting combination is a hallmark of his adventurous artistic spirit in the 1940's.
