Fu Baoshi did this painting in 1944, while he was living in Sichuan's Jingangpo. The same year, he was already already married for 15 years with his wife, Luo Shihui, and his second daughter, Yick Suen, was only 3 months old. Fu was in love with Sichuan, a beautiful and mystical place, thus created numerous magnificent landscapes of the Sichuan mountains and their unique atmospheres.
In this painting, a scholar is standing on a small on a small stone bridge, taking in the amazing scenery of the mountains, which are in the fog and clouds. Hidden among the trees near the foot, are cottages and residences. This is a typical view of the area near Jingangpo. This painting was done in a bird's eye view perspective - the narrow and relatively small surface acts as a window, which enables the viewer to peer through, and behold the vast landscape. One can see the artist's love for nature by reading the seal " speaking for the mountains and valleys" on the left of this painting. It seems that where words fail, only through paintings ca Fu Baoshi let the world share his love for nature.
