A Charles X brass, ormolu and Breccia marble striking skeleton clock of long duration
Circa 1825
The thick brass movement frame with large conical pillars secured with blued steel screws to the front plate, the main white enamel Roman chapter ring with ormolu bezels, pierced blued steel Breguet hands, small diameter white enamel seconds ring below XII, flanking calendar dials below with re-silvered centres and foliate cast ormolu bezels, the left dial engraved Jours des Mois with small date aperture, the right dial engraved Mois des Anneé, with small rectangluar aperture for the month, the moonphase dial to the top engraved CROISSANT and DÉCROISANT, the going train with large spring barrel, large pinions and six-wheel train, the pinwheel escapement planted on the front plate behind the sconds ring with escapement arbor pivoting on the back plate and crutch-piece engaging behind the massive nine-rod gridiron pendulum suspended above the movement plates, the strike train with countwheel striking on bell to the back plate, the movement resting on a rectangular Brechia marble base applied with foliate cast ormolu mount to the front and resting on foliate cast ormolu block feet; on further later yellow velvet-lined mahogany plinth, with later brass framed glazed cover
